Obituary of Robert F. Gurley
Robert “Bob” F. Gurley, 94, of Prattsville, died unexpectedly on January 7, 2025. Bob was born on June 7, 1930 to Jack and Alice Gurley in Holsopple, PA. He married Virginia-Annette Delmar on September 9, 1956 at St. Philip Neri RC, Grand Gorge and they were married for 68 years. Bob was the proud father of Robert Jr., Marcia (Peter) Tocci, Nancy (Rick) Hodge and Ursula (Tom) Lindley. He was also grandfather of Robert J. Gurley, Devon F. Gurley, Nadine (Isaac) Gurley Huntsman, Christina Gurley, Lynne Tocci, Brittany Tocci Pryun, Cody Hodge, Taylor Hodge Beadle, Jacob Lindley, Alex Lindley and Katie Lindley Jonard and Michael Dema. Also great-grandfather of Lincoln and Crew Huntsman, Arabella Gurley, Tanner Hoke, Lukas and Nathanael Pryun, Quinley Hodge, Jackson, Blayke, Griffen and Ryes Lindley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Jean and grandson Christopher. Bob served honorably in the US Army in the Korean War, 1953-1954, a combat veteran, earning the rank of Sergeant in the 50th MASH Helicopter Unit for rescue and retrieval, earning him many medals and commendations. This sparked his love of flying resulting in him earning his private pilot’s license. On his discharge from the U.S. Army he has made his home in Prattsville and has lived very happily there for 70 years being very content with his community. He has been a 50 year member of the American Legion Virgil E. Deyo Post 1327, Prattsville, serving as Post and Greene County officers over many years. He was chosen as Greene County Veteran of the Year 2019, an honor he so appreciated and deserved. Bob was well known for his support of his fellow veterans, always making sure they received anything they needed or they requested, especially at the Stratton VAMC, Albany. He will be missed greatly by so many.
Calling hours are Friday, January 10, 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, at Decker’s Funeral Home, Windham, New York. There will be a Mass on Saturday January 11, 2025, at 10 AM at St. Philip Neri RC in Grand Gorge, interment with military honors to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville.
