Obituary of Uwe Schneeclaus

Uwe Schneeclaus, age 85, of Prattsville, NY passed away on June 2, 2020 in Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY.

Uwe was born on October 29, 1934 in Hamburg, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1953, where he met his wife Ruth in Queens, NY.  They
married in 1955 and lived in Rosedale, Queens with their daughters Susan and Christa.

After an apprenticeship in ornamental ironwork, he moved on to become a boilermaker-welder for the Long Island Railroad. After 27 years of service, he retired in 1987 and shortly after relocated to Prattsville.

Uwe was a 50 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons, initiated into Lessing Lodge No. 608 in Ridgewood, Queens in 1970.   In 1978, he was appointed District Deputy Grand Master of the 9th Manhattan District and participated in many other factions in Freemasonry.  During these years, he received numerous awards and certificates for his outstanding services. After moving to Prattsville, he joined Mountain Lodge No. 529 in Windham serving as the Secretary of the lodge until 2019.

Uwe was a man you could always count upon. He was honest, hardworking and lived his life to the fullest although he grew quite lonely after losing his wife Ruth.
He supported many charities including the Shriners Hospital for Children and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Uwe is survived by his daughters
Susan Schneeclaus
Christa Schneeclaus-Tyson, husband Gregory Tyson and grandson Zachary Tyson.
He is predeceased by his wife Ruth.

Susan and Christa would especially like to thank the nurses at Columbia Memorial Hospital for the care and comfort they provided for our father and for the conscientious and extraordinarily competent relay of information to us during this horrific pandemic, which prevented us from being at his side in his time of need.  The kindness and empathy provided to us from the nurses allowed us to be with our father virtually until the end.
