I celebrate with you a good man’s life and I mourn with you Michael’s passing. Michael had the right formula for living a wonderful and great life. I admired Michael and Annie from a distance as they lived a beautiful life together with their sons... Michael touched many lives with his unspoken love…. My heartfelt condolences to my niece Annie; my grand nephews, Michael and Luke; and to Michael’s sister, Barbara...
Love,
Aunt Gloria

Mike lived up the block from me when we were growing up. He was one of the first friends I made when our family moved to Silver Lake in 1962. We always had a lot of laughs in school and down at the Park. Mike was the friend that you don't see for 10 years and then just pick up like it was yesterday when you meet again. I got a chance to talk with him about a month ago, and will always be thankful for that conversation. I never had the pleasure of meeting Anne, Michael and Luke, but I wish you all, and Mike's sister Barbara, strength as you work through this very sad time together. I hope you had a good trip home Mike! Rest in Peace!

I am so sorry to learn of Mike’s passing. I shared a room with him at St. Peter’s. We laughed, we bonded and in one day it seemed as though we knew each other our whole life. He was inspiring, thoughtful, kind and a truly positive man. He touched my life and I will always remember him. May God bless his soul. May cherished memories help to assuage his family’s grief.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of my cousin Michael. My thoughts go back to childhood when we all gathered at grandma Casarella’s house “up the hill” for holidays or just for a weekend. Michael was part of a close trio of cousins – Dan Gizzo, John Cianflone, and of course Michael. Michael was along with his cousins, always smiling or laughing, usually at some joke or prank (often one he had instigated). He was mischievous but never mean, and had a great sense of fun. He always seemed to me someone who enjoyed life to the fullest. Doubtless he is keeping my brother John company now and smiling in Heaven. My deepest sympathy to his family on their loss. Mike and my husband Gene and I took a walk together on a sunny February day this year along a lovely trail in Hunter. And in 2020, Mike followed our crazy dream of building a Czech style rock garden. He did a fabulous job covering rotting tree trunks with sand, laying bluestone, and gravel. The plants Karin Ursula planted are thriving. We are honored to name these two gardens after Mike who made our dream come true. Because of Mike, We are able to grow cactus and lavender! Sending much love peace and blessings to all who loved him. Such a TREASURE. Here is a link to a video of Michael creating a legacy on our land at Brunel Park. https://youtu.be/r2dPseKaBnc

Growing up our families spent many hours "up the hill" during holidays, Sunday dinners and other parties. Many times Michael and Danny Boy would hold court telling stories and entertaining all the relatives. Michael was always so engaging and kind and I looked up to him as my older "cousin". He took me on my first motorcycle ride when I was about 12 years old. I thought we were going down the street for ice cream but he hit the highway for a couple exits - I could hear him laughing and just telling me to relax. I will always remember Michael smiling, laughing and someone that was so kind-hearted. The last time I saw Michael was at a family member's funeral - as always, he had some funny stories about the early days and things going on in his life - all stories that made me laugh and put me at ease. You will be missed.

I am so sad to hear of Mike's passing. My heart goes out to Anne, Michael, & Luke. Mike had a profound affect with his advice he gave me through the years, starting as a teen sneaking in to Tequilas. Michael taught me to speak the truth & stand up for what I believed in, even if it would make the ground shake. He was full of fantastical stories and some of the best conversations I have had in my life included ones with him. I remember young 19 year old me in Tequilas after the bar closed playing the ring game. Mike came happily, almost skipping out from the back after hanging up the phone and yelled "I just hung up the phone with the woman I'm going to marry!" I am lucky to have known Mike and blessed to have had his guidance with so many things especially the parenting conversations. Michael and Luke were graced to have him as a father. He loved you both and Anne so much. I am so sorry for your loss.

A life well lived. I only knew Michael as a result of a handful of visits to the mountain to see my sister. However, his impact on my time spent there was profound. His infectious smile, and culinary based hospitality were as genuine and unique as Michael himself. Michael and Ann were great friends to my sister and I felt comfort in knowing so. I remember working with him on a deck on my sisters house and his energy and curiosity about life were infectious....he was relentless.
To Ann, "thank you". To Michael and Luke," Do what is right, for you know it to be true, because you can trust the one (your Dad) who taught you"
To Michael "Much respect"
Michael A.
