I regret that I did not learn of Barbara's passing until this week. I offer my sincere sympathies to Dave and all of her family and volunteers. I knew her only by way of our shared love of nature and bald eagles. But from our first encounter eight years ago, when she came to rescue two juvenile eaglets near here, and throughout our subsequent infrequent encounters over the miles and years, she treated me like a worthy colleague and friend. Our second joint rescue, and a shared eagle release event, this past summer, will live in my memories forever. I admired her fierce protection of wildlife, and her vast knowledge of creatures great and small. But greatest of all was her big heart – she gave her all for all of us. Indeed, she was a Wind Beneath My Wings, and always will be.
