I just learned about John's passing yesterday. He was my Junior High and Earth Science teacher at Stamford. He was a great man, missed him much after he left Stamford. My sincere condolences.

I just received a Cortland College newsletter, in which John's passing was listed. I'm so sorry to hear of this. He was an RA in a dorm at Cortland when he was going there for his Master's degree and I was an undergrad. He was so funny and loved all his students. He gave good advice! One silly memory I have of him was going to a Homecoming football game in October of 1972 and he hollered at the team "make them relinquish the ball!" I had never heard a cheer like that! Please extend our condolences to his family.

My deepest condolences to the Valenti family. I met John many years ago as a representative for United Publishing Company. During the years he taught at Windham Ashland Jewett School I always looked forward to seeing him. There were times when he would even allow me to come up to his classroom. The discussion about books would last about 10 seconds when I would thank him for his order then we would talk about skiing and our families. It was truly a pleasure and an honor to get to know him and Joyce.

Probably about 30 years ago I entered a 5k race at Hunter Mountain. John was at the end of the race cheering people on and as I was passing him almost to the finish line, he yelled to me, “Pump those arms!”. And I did which caused me to come in first place in my category. Jimmy and I had so much fun going out dancing with John and Joyce. His labor of love was sure not in vain because so many people were blessed by him. And he is now enjoying the fruits of that love and he’s dancing in glory!

I will never forget the sound of Mr. V whistling the Imperial March from Star Wars while walking the halls of WAJ... I never got to have him as a teacher but he was the best substitute ever.

Joyce, Serena, and Genevieve, my deepest condolences to you and everyone in the Valenti family. I knew John throughout the years I taught ESL at WAJ, and he was not only a wonderful, knowledgeable colleague, but a true blessing to the ELL's in the district at that time. He bridged any language barrier with humor, kindness, and consistent support and understanding for each of their situations. He was always respectful and mindful of their needs as kids far from home, as well as finding ways to help them feel safe and enthusiastic about his class and Science as a field of study. His influence on the students' lives and on mine will never be forgotten. I was lucky to have known John M. Valenti!

I honor and celebrate Mr John. The most genuine and high spirited friend I have ever had. John without exception lit up my spirits when ever I would see or talk with him. The world has lost a truly wonderful, delightful, gregarious and great person. I as so so sad to have lost such a good soul who has taught me to be a better and more loving man from watching how John conducted his loving ways. Condolences, love and hugs to you and your family Ms Joyce. A sad time for all of us who were fortunate enough to know Mr John V. I celebrate his life now.

Met John at a Modified Basketball Game in 1986/87. He was sitting on the gym floor in front of the scorers table with one of his girls, watching the game and playing with her while holding her in his lap. I was there to referee the game. That was him and to this day I have never seen that duplicated. Friendliest and welcoming guy to the max. My kids love him. An extreme loss to the Windham community and family.
