Obituary of John Patrick Cannon

John Patrick Cannon
June 6, 1960 — September 17, 2023

It is with sadness we announce that John Cannon, a Prattsville resident, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 17. He was 63. John had a colorful career as an artist and musician in the 1980s New York City music scene. His band, Public Assistance, played regularly at the legendary CBGB club in Manhattan. Another project of his, the Puppets, had a dance floor hit and WLIR screamer of the week, “The Way of Life.” Additional music projects included Making Moves, and later Christ Complex in the 90s. He was a creative force whose music will live on.

Eventually, John used this expertise and love of broadcasting on the radio, working for record and multimedia companies in publicity and production, but especially radio. He led an active lifestyle in both Williamsburg, Brooklyn and the Catskill Mountains. He loved snowboarding all over the country as well as bicycle riding in New York City and the Mountaintop with his wife. It was his love of winter snowboarding that brought him to the Catskills. He owned a house in Prattsville that he lovingly restored over the years. He is survived by his wife, Diane Apostolacus, and two sisters Anne and Mary.

A Celebration of Life is planned for October 21 in Prattsville, New York.
