Maurice O. A. Nelson, a long-time resident of Lexington NY went home to be with the Lord on Sunday July 26, 2026 at the age of 90.  Maurice is survived by his daughters Cynthia, Nancy and Kathryn.  He is also survived by his brother Franklin (Arlene) Nelson and many loved relatives.  He is preceded in death by his wife Thelma Nelson, parents Oscar Nelson and Anna Danielsen  (formerly Nelson, nee Jacobsen), and sister Doris Nelson, and brothers Vincent Nelson, and Oscar Nelson Jr. and grandparents Dina and John Reme and Thora and Hans Jacobsen.

Maurice and Thelma were married for 57 years, starting their lives together in Brooklyn NY and then moving to Lexington in the 70s to raise their girls.

Maurice was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, worked carpentry, heavy construction, and dock building in New York City and worked on many construction jobs throughout the Catskill Mountains.  He also worked on the tugboats pushing barges up and down the Hudson River.   Maurice, also known by many as “Moe”, was a member of the Sons of Norway Hudson Valley NY, member of the WAJPL Golden Age Club in Windham NY, served as Justice for the Town of Lexington, served as Councilman for the Town of Lexington, and attended the Lexington – West Kill United Methodist Church.

He was a loving son, grandson, husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, uncle, nephew and friend, always remembering and praying for everyone he knew.  He was loved by all and always had a big smile and a twinkle in his eyes.  Wherever he was there would be stories and laughter as he had a great sense of humor and many stories to tell, old and new.  He had a great singing voice and loved music.  He could sing along with many gospel and country songs and loved to listen to the xm radio station Willie’s Roadhouse.  He also loved to golf with his daughters at charitable golf outings and would tell everyone he was only there to sink the putts.  He loved movies, theatre, road trips, motorcycling, and going out to dinner with friends and family.  He also loved doing arts and crafts, especially working together with his wife on many stained- glass projects and teaching stained glass class with Thelma at the WAJPL Golden Age Club for many years.

He will always be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, including his pets, and his everlasting love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Calling hours will be at the UMC Lexington on Saturday, August 1st from 9 AM to 12 PM, Funeral service will immediately follow.
