Douglas Albert Slater Sr., 69, of Prattsville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at his residence.


He was born on Thursday, July 12, 1956, in Margaretville, a son of the late Albert and Anna (née Morris) Slater.


He was a graduate of Gilboa Central School. After school, he held many jobs, including working as a welder and a snowmaker at Hunter Mountain from 1976 to 1999. He then started driving trucks for Safeway from 1999 until his retirement in 2021.


He was a proud member of the Prattsville Fire Co. and a volunteer with the Fire Police. He enjoyed traveling, watching western shows, and welding.


In addition to his parents, Douglas was predeceased by his son, Andrew Slater.


He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Slater, a son, Douglas Albert Slater Jr. (Allister), a brother, Anthony Slater, and his sister-in-law Donna Slater, as well as granddaughters Brooke (Ethan) Wright, Kylee Slater, and Cali Slater, along with many nieces and nephews.
