Obituary of John E. Parslow Sr.
John Edward Parslow Sr., 88, of Hunter, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
John was a retired Master Sergeant, who enlisted in the US Airforce on December 11, 1955. For the first seven years, John was assigned to strategic air commands, and heavy bomber groups, working on the B36 & B52. At this time, he was assigned to the 95th & 96th bomb groups at Biggs AFB Texas, and Albany, Georgia.
The next seven years were in missile maintenance. They include the Atlas , Titan, and Minutemen Missiles. Assignments took John through Plattsburgh AFB, Whiteman AFB Missouri, and Malmstrom AFB, Montana.
In 1969, John was sent to Saigon, Vietnam as an airforce intelligence supervisor, and returned to Langley AFB, Virginia as an intelligence supervisor .In 1971, John was stationed in Udorn Thailand as a photo target intelligence supervisor, before returning to SAC Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.
In the final four years of his service, John was a recruiting sector supervisor in Poughkeepsie / Newburgh, New York, before formally retiring in January 1976.
After retirement , John had a full life with his family. He kept busy professionally as Councilman, owned a plumbing business, was a NY State Boiler Inspector, and worked as a caretaker at North / South Lake. He had many hobbies including woodworking, painting, and fishing. He was a life member of the Hunter Fire Company, he joined them in September of 1976.
John leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Arlene, and their three children, Joanne, Tammy, and John, Jr, and son-in-law, Dan, and daughter-in-law Patricia. John and Arlene have 10 grand-children, and a number great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
*Burial with Honors will take place on Sunday, June 22nd at Maplewood Cemetery, State Highway 23A, Hunter, NY 12442 at 1 PM, a celebration of life will immediately follow at the Hunter Fire House, 18 Bridge Street, Hunter, NY.*
