George Tripsas, 91, of Windham New York passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2025.


George was born on February 2, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Panigotis Melas and Samuel Tripsas. 


After graduating from Dickinson High School in 1951, he served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1957 stationed in Germany as a Medic and another 14 years in the reserves.  George met his wife Kunigunda (Connie) during his time in Germany. George worked for Inland Steel in Jersey City and at his uncle’s restaurant, St. John’s Diner in Queens, New York, among other various occupations.


In the mid-1980’s George and Connie moved to Windham, New York where they owned and operated an antique store and upholstery shop. George served with the Greater Windham Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption.


George was a patriot who enjoyed marching in the Memorial Day parade wearing his army uniform and playing patriotic albums on his victrola. He enjoyed telling stories about his childhood and growing up in a big city.


George was known for singing “It’s a Lovely Day Today” early in the mornings when his grandchildren visited during the holidays.  George’s favorite past times were mowing his lawn, pheasant and rabbit hunting, going to the casino and dancing at festivals and weddings with his lovely wife Connie, who predeceased him in 2017.


George is survived by his five children Samuel (Pamela), Gus (Carola), Mary (Mike), Chris (Rachel), and Eugenia (Robert), as well as 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


 George was also predeceased by his three sisters, Mary, Betsy and Helen. 


Viewing hours will be held at Decker Funeral Home, 5312 Main Street, Windham on Monday, June 2nd at 6pm-8pm. A church service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 11:00am at the Greek Orthodox Church in Windham.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in George’s memory to the Tunnell to Towers Foundation at T2T.org
